5 reasons why your social media isn’t growing

When scrolling through Instagram & TikTok I constantly see the same pattern kept showing up over and over.

SO many business were creating content consistently, the results just weren’t there Here’s the mistakes that are being made (so that you can avoid them and start seeing some growth for your business!)

1. Not using hooks

No hooks at all is a complete no-go. Your audience needs multiple versions of stimulation to capture their attention. Just one hook is nowhere near enough these days.

Two hooks are acceptable… but it’s leaving money on the table.

Three hooks is the sweet spot 🤌🏽

This can look like:

  • Text hook: A mind-blowing sentence that captures them in the first line
  • Verbal hook: A shocking phrase in audio that catches them in. You saying something that makes them think “wait, what?” The tone of your voice, a pause, emphasis on a word that makes them actually listen.
  • Visual hook: Something visually attention-grabbing. Could be you propping your phone down as you speak. Walking into frame. Anything that’s moving. Movement gets attention instantly.

When you put all 3 together, THAT’s when people want to listen

2. Selfish content

This looks like – you’re talking about features instead of pain points.

A skincare brand showing ingredients instead of showing the person’s skin transformation.

Your audience doesn’t want specs – they want solutions to their problems!

3. No optimisation

This is the easiest thing that you can do to make a difference – if you have no subtitles on screen, no text hooks, no on-screen text, you’re losing out on so many viewers.

Because it seems obvious to you, but your audience is scrolling muted, distracted, probably doing something else. Make it as easy for them to consume it.

4. Not winning attention early

Let me guess, you’re hoping they’ll watch your content instead of you fighting to make them want to?

The first 1 second of your content determines everything. Most content wastes the first moments that are just ASKING people to scroll past 🥲

5. Using hashtags

Death of the hashtag?! It might be… I hate to say it, but hashtags don’t get you visibility on Instagram anymore… What will is:

  • Search terms in your captions
  • On-screen text, subtitles

That’s what gets you found.

BUT, all of this stems from one thing: not thinking like your audience.

The ones with the viral videos, thousands of followers and that are ACTUALLY making sales from social media – they think like their audience first and are asking questions like:

What problem are they trying to solve?

What makes them stop scrolling?

Are you creating for your audience or for yourself right now? Because if nothing’s moving, it’s probably the second one.
